WHAT IS THE SEED LIBRARY?

The Seed Library is a collection of seeds that you can choose and borrow from to plant at home. Let your plants grow, collect their seeds, and donate some of them back to the Seed Library.

Our seeds collection mainly consists of seeds from open-pollinated plants, and the choice depends on the season and donations.

The Seed Library is located at the Tartu Public Library main building (Kompanii 3/5), on the ground floor, in the children's and youth department.

DO I HAVE TO RETURN THE SEEDS?

You are not obligated to collect and return seeds, especially if you are a beginner gardener. However, we hope that after gaining experience, you will consider donating some seeds to the Seed Library community. We also accept seeds left over from any previous gardening at home.

HOW DO I FIND THE SEED LIBRARY SEEDS IN THE CATALOGUE?

Go to: https://www.ester.ee/, select Tartu Public Library, and enter the keyword seemneraamatukogu.

HOW CAN I ORDER SEEDS?

Seeds can be ordered just like books. You choose the type of seed that you are interested in and order it to be picked up at the department or branch of the library that suits you best. NB! You cannot place yourself on the waiting list. If the seed packages are all borrowed out, your order will be cancelled.

HOW CAN I DONATE SEEDS?

Seed donations will be received by all branch libraries and library departments. If you collect the seeds yourself, please label your seed package with the exact name of the plant in Estonian and also in Latin (if possible), the place (county) and date of collection, and the name of the donator. The Latin name is needed due to the fact that many common/traditional names can be misleading.
